Training tool kit and Outreach/Education Committee

Develop and update a standardized training tool for at least four (4) different sectors including educators, medical practitioners, law enforcement/Child Welfare and Social Services. This committee will work closely with the law enforcement committee to develop the training materials for law enforcement. In addition, the committee will create a safety plan document as well as an information fact sheet that contains information about the federal law including vacation cutting, available services for at risk girls and survivors that will be distributed to frontline providers including Pediatricians, Passport Office (Dept of State), Airlines (JFK Airport) etc…

In addition, this committee will be in charge of reaching out and conducting trainings in the community. The target would be service providers as well as communities from countries that practice FGM.

Law enforcement Committee

The first goal will be to clarify reporting requirements for mandatory reporters found in the New York Social Services Law and the New York Family Court Act and to determine the best way to educate mandatory reporters about their obligations related to reporting girls at risk for FGM/C.

Partnership, Advocacy and Liaison (PAL) Committee:

The committee will work toward expanding the Coalition’s membership. Members of this committee will be in charge for recruiting potential members, drafting the invitation letter to be sent to potential members, and following up until a final decision to join or not to join is made by the potential member.

In Addition, this committee will play the role of liaison between the NY Coalition to end FGM and the US Network and the International Community (Foreign Gov. and Activists working in other countries) to get updates on the work they are doing, and share best practices. The committee will be the liaison between the mayor’s office and the Coalition to coordinate the campaign to end FGM in NY, and advocate on issues such as clarification of mandatory reporting; including FGM questions in assessment forms for hospitals, schools, HRA (this will help to have an idea on prevalence/incidents) and other issues.

Youth Leadership Committee:

This committee will work closely with the PAL Committee. Will target the youth involvement.
